Informational Meeting on Complete Count Committees for Census 2020

Preparations for the 2020 Census are starting now nationwide. On Tuesday, August 21, the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce sponsored an informational session featuring an expert from the Census Bureau. Her main message was that it is essential to have a complete, accurate census count so that citizens benefit from government funding.

For example, Nebraska currently receives about $1300 per capita of federal funding. If one-thousand persons are not counted in the census, the state would lose out on about thirteen million dollars of funding during a ten-year period.

Ron Tillery of Phelps County Development Corp. and the SPUCC president, said, “A representative from the 2020 Census is here to help us pre-plan and get ready to engage our communities in the census process in order to get the best possible result.”

The Census Bureau is assisting communities and counties in forming Complete Count Committees that will inform and encourage people to participate in the 2020 Census. SPUCC plans to act as one of those committees and be a source of information for the twenty-two counties in the South Region.
