2017 Legislative Preview with State Chamber and Legislators at SPUCC December Meeting

HOLDREGE, NE; November 23, 2016 – Barry Kennedy, from the Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce, and Galen Hadley, Speaker of the Legislature are on slate for the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce luncheon meeting December 13 in Holdrege.

Kennedy, president of the State Chamber, will review the past year and give a preview the 2017 Nebraska Legislative Session.

Hadley, who has been the Speaker for the last two years, is the state senator from Kearney. He will lead a session with other legislators on how things get done in law-making.

Current, newly elected, and former Nebraska senators have been invited to participate. At this date, senators-elect Steve Halloran of Hastings and John Lowe of Kearney have been confirmed to attend, as well as former senators Tom Carlson and Ed Schrock of Holdrege.

Ron Tillery, legislative chair for SPUCC, said, “This meeting will help our members gain information about the upcoming legislative session so we can improve how we advocate for the South Platte region.”

Tillery and SPUCC President Tim Anderson encourage all residents of the South Platte region, not just SPUCC members, to attend.

“Being informed and knowing your state senator gives you a voice in government beyond your vote,” Anderson said. “And the senators want to hear from constituents. They want to know how proposed laws will affect their district.”

In addition to the legislative review, topics during the meeting include Rural Issues, Priority Bills, and Lobbying. Time is also set aside for the audience to give feedback to the senators about local issues.

The public is invited to this quarterly meeting of the South Platte United Chambers of Commerce. It will be held Tuesday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holdrege Country Club, 314 W 18th Ave, Holdrege. The agenda is posted at
